i’m so tired of hearing that johnlock is somehow not important or “just two white gay men” or whatever else so many sherlols want to throw at us. john and sherlock’s relationship has been a subject of discussion and debate for years. not only that, but so many straight white old men want to claim these characters as their own and run away screaming from any queer reading of the text. to make these characters canonically gay is important. it makes a difference. and in broader terms, representation is vital. a show that focuses on the relationship between two men without fetishization, without shoving them into a one-off side plot, without killing them off, is important.
tl;dr: johnlock is progress and it sets a precedent that other media can follow
