i really see mary and moriarty as equal villains, more than mary as moran but consider: at first they were working together, that’s why moriarty hid himself for so long in tgg (the hard thing to reconcile here is his appearance as molly’s boyfriend but then again, he’s more the confrontational type while mary isn’t). they were working together until he went on his own to the pool. that wasn’t their plan, the two didn’t organize it together, and that’s part of the reason it fails. neither one of them is strong enough to take on john and sherlock alone. and after that, maybe, moriarty started operating alone. and it took him being dead (i do think he’s dead) for mary to begin to go against sherlock alone.
