It’s a different world than it was in 2012, gay people don’t just blindly watch shows that hint at gay characters while denying real representation anymore, they fight back.
That’s why TJLC is happening at the perfect time, because it’s showing what this kind of story does when it’s told right, it’ll be the shock so many other movies and shows should have been. It’s hinting at what’s happening while remaining just subtle enough that straight people can say “No! They wouldn’t do that! It’s a crime show! It’s Sherlock Holmes!” and then when it happens, we’ll have been right and the rest of the world will have to adjust.
My real question is, why would someone continue to watch a show with this many hints at a romance if you think they aren’t going anywhere with it, and are adamantly opposed to the idea that they might be?
The problem is people like that. They made people believe for so long that they should just settle for hints, that they didn’t deserve any better. We don’t believe that anymore.
