i’ve seen a lot of cishet people calling the orlando shooter a repressed gay man recently and using that to absolve them of blame for the revolting homophobia that led to the pulse shooting. that is incredibly upsetting to me.
because listen. even if the shooter was gay (and i’m not saying he was), that wasn’t why he killed us. he didn’t learn to commit this sort of atrocity on his own. he killed us because cishet people have created a culture where being a part of the lgbt community is looked down upon. where it’s dangerous to be one of us. where, whether or not they are holding the guns, straight people are killing us. we are not their scapegoat.
